(16-08) The final program is ready for download! (click here!)
(14-08) Arrival schedule, transport
In less, than two weeks time the 12th Tihany Symposium will be opened. Most of the arrangements have been done, the organizers and the hosts in the Hotel Freya are looking forward to meeting you in Zalakaros to spend together a few scientifically exciting and useful, socially pleasant and memorable days. We are just waiting eagerly to get the missing arrival schedules in order to finalize the transport of the participants from Budapest to Zalakaros on the 27th of August (i.e. to fix the departure timetable of the conference buses). Those who have not yet sent it to us, please do it immediately.
(14-08) Presentations, info
The scientific program of the symposium has been finalized. We would like to remind you, that invited speakers have 40 minutes time, while authors giving regular oral presentations, have 20 minutes time including discussion. Those participants, who decided to present their results using posters have a space to do it in A0 format. We also draw your attention, that the full papers can already be downloaded via the Elsevier Editorial System
(29-07) We are pleased to inform you that the preparations to open the 12th Tihany Symposium on Radiation Chemistry are in the final stage. Many distinguished members of the „Tihany family” will be present again together with new members of our research area. We are looking forward to the reunion of all of our friends and colleagues at the end of August in Zalakaros, a green natural reserve in the southern part of Hungary, and hope to spend together a few nice and pleasant, scientifically interesting and useful days with you.
Since Zalakaros is about 200 kmsouth of Budapest, special conference buses will be available from Budapest Airport to the location of the symposium (on the 27th of August) as well as back to the airport after the closing of the meeting (on the 1st of September). Therefore we kindly ask you to inform us about your arrival and departure schedules in order to make the necessary arrangements concerning the bus transport. Our colleagues will be present at the airport all day long for your assistance. The price of the bus transport for the return journey is 50 Euro and it will be collected on the buses. In case if you have any other request or assistance needed, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Introduction
The series of “Tihany” Symposia on Radiation Chemistry aims to promote worldwide scientific and technical collaboration among scientists involved in various aspects of radiation research and applications in a stimulating and thought provoking environment. The first Symposium was held in Tihany in 1962 and since then has been held approximately every four years. Most recent meetings were in Sopron (2002) and Eger (2006). Now it is our pleasure to announce the 12th Tihany Symposium. The scientific program of the Symposium covers all the major disciplines of both basic and applied radiation chemistry, with invited speakers, oral and poster contributions from participants. Generous time frame will be allocated to open discussions.
Scientific scope
- · Fundamental processes in radiation chemistry
- · Electron beam-, ion beam-, photon-, laser-, plasma- and gamma irradiation applications
- · Chemistry of exotic atoms (e. g. positronium, negative ions, positron annihilation)
- · Radiolysis of inorganic and organic systems
- · Radiation chemistry of biological systems
- · Radiation chemistry of nanoscale systems
- · Macromolecular systems (polymerization kinetics, crosslinking, grafting, etc.)
- · Radiation sterilization (current issues, pharmaceuticals, etc.)
- · Biomedical materials (biocompatible surfaces, hydrogels, drug delivery, etc.)
- · Environmental protection (e. g. wastewater-, sludge-, flue gas treatment, recycling, etc.)
- · Food irradiation, identification of irradiated food, packaging materials
- · Radiation resistant materials (sterilization, deep space, nuclear reactors, etc.)
- · Dosimetry and process control

Location
The small town of Zalakaros (population 1.500) lies in the south-western
region of Hungary,
40 km far from the Balaton. There is a small airport in Sármellék in a distance
of 15 km. The settlement has been well known in Hungary and abroad for the remarkable medicinal thermal bath discovered in the 60's,
which is with its water of 96 °C the warmest spa in Hungary. This thermal water is ideal
for curing skin-defections, gum-diseases, curing locomotor disorders, as well
as for rehabilitation purposes.
Accommodation
All participants will be accommodated in Hunguest Hotel Freya. The Hotel is situated in a well maintained 10-acre park of the open-air thermal bath, decorated with trees and flowers, in the city center. The hotel is connected to Gránit Thermal Bath with a heated passageway, making the therapy section within easy reach. Both medicinal and thermal water are available in the thermal bath. The first indoor Fun Bath in Hungary (360 m2 of water with 11 different attractions) is also to be found here. The various water outlets act as massaging devices. Walking against a strong stream of water will prove to be a real exercise.
The conference room and the poster room are also located in the hotel. All meals will be served in the hotel restaurant. Accommodations on a full board basis will be offered in double and single rooms.
